EAR CROPPING
Here at Ohana Great Danes, we believe that getting your puppy's ears cropped is a personal decision that should be made with careful consideration. While we do recommend it, we also understand that it's not for everyone. If you do choose to have your puppy's ears cropped, we strongly advise that you commit to posting their ears to ensure the best possible outcome.
Ear cropping is a procedure that is typically done by a licensed veterinarian between the age of 7-12 weeks old. It is recommended to have the procedure done between 7-9 weeks while the puppies are still in our care. Most breeders do not offer the choice of being cropped in their care, but here at Ohana Great Danes of Michigan, we are highly experianced and prefer to have it done while in our care. We drive multiple hours away to a highly experianced and Licensed Veterinarian that we love and trust!
Sutures stay in between 7-14 days after the procedure, and the ears take 3-4 weeks to completely heal after cropping. Once healed, the ears have to be posted to train them to stand. There are several different methods that people use to post their puppies' ears, and we can provide you with information on these methods and what we prefer.
